The way this piece plays with dark and light contrast has an amazingly gripping effect, or at least to me it does. The idea of an impact and cracks forming from it really does bring home the feeling of an 'apocalypse' well, and the red glow adds an extra menace effectively. The spherical shape of the 'target', as well as the mention of apocalypse is more then sufficient to deliver the idea that this is indeed Earth we're looking at. One thing that may be open for improvement is that the circles tend to be a disturbing element. I think without them the piece may have been better then it is now. Sometimes simplicity goes way beyond what any complicated shape or color scheme could ever accomplish. Another slightly negative point may be that the idea of an 'apocalypse' isn't really original, but the way in which it is portrayed certainly is.
